SOTHIS was founded by Wolfgang Steinkrüger in 1996.
Because of his love for collecting watches, Wolfgang Steinkrüger created his own watch and one year later went into series after receiving many inquiries. So began the first model “SPIRIT OF MOON”; with a diameter of 39mm and 3 different face variations.

These models were greeted with great enthusiasm by watch fans worldwide. It was quickly realised that watch making was a full-time job and not something one could do in their spare time. After careful consideration, Wolfgang Steinkrüger decided to retire from his profession as Advertising and Production Designer of his own Advertising Agency in Bielefeld in order to spend his full time in designing and producing top quality limited Editions of mechanised watches. Now, 10 years later, the actual collection consists of 13 models. A number of the models designed since 1997 have reached their limitation and are no longer available

The watch face is the personality of every watch and decides the on success of the watch. Therefore, I, as a designer with an eye for typography, insist on the balanced fashion of our watch faces. Each individual watch face is enlarged 10 times on the computer in order to see and correct any imperfections. The design spectrum of our models extends from puristish to extravagant. For example, the watch dial of the IKARUS model contains 73 individual pieces. These many pieces are as varied as the blue appliqué work of the roman numerals through to the proscribing of the minute dividers. Each individual appliqué is drilled to an exact one hundredth hole through which the feet of the appliqué are threaded and then riveted in the reverse side.

Every individual piece of the watch is stringently controlled by our staff on delivery to our company. Any imperfections or faults are immediately reclaimed from the suppliers or brought up to perfect condition in accordance to our top quality standards by our own craftsmen. Only through such measures can we be sure of delivering top quality watches. The watches are assembled with the same care.
Each movement is given a coating of first class long life oil before assembly. Special gloves are warn when setting the face and hands. After this phase, the movement with all its components is fitted into the casing. The watch is then tested on a 5 stage chronometer and regulated. The last step is to test its water resistance under sub-atmospheric end excessive pressure conditions, also, a 240 hour test on a rotary machine with daily controls of all functions of the watch. Only after these procedures have been completed is the watch ready for delivery, with my personal signature documented on the Guarantee-Certificate.

Sothis Chronograph SPIRIT OF MOON „IKARUS“
This chronograph from 2005 is based on the chronograph Prestige, we choose a silver guilloche dial with 24 rays coming our of the center of the moon phase. The roman numbers and the minute marker are single appliqués. The color off the appliqués are blue like the blued steel hands. Each of these parts needs a very small drilling. All appliqués have thin feeds for this drillings and must be set by hand.
After setting all appliqués the feeds of each part is secured by riveting from the backside. In the end this dial carries 72 single parts.

Sothis Chronograph HORUS
Watch of the year 2006, less often is more! During the last year a lot of watch companies have developed a lot of complicated watches. There was a big competition between the big manufacturers to create watches and chronographs with Tourbillons and a lot of additional complications. You know that SOTHIS is different compared with the other brands, so we are going to enter the watch world with a new chronograph. There is no complication like a Tourbillon, minute repeater, or other high end complications. Our new chronograph named “HORUS” comes with only one hand for the time indication. During 12 hours our double tip hand with the stylized sun and the star move during 12 hours from 6 to 6. For one 360° turn this hand needs 24 hours, so you can see the differences between day and night immediately. This is a special chronograph for people living a life of leisure, without out stress and big hustle of business. For this case the time indication comes with a precision of +/- two minutes. After the huge success of the first WORLD TIME CHRONOGRAPH these watches reach the limitation and we had to stop the production. Based on this success SOTHIS creates for the year 2007 the new „WORLD TIME CHRONO 2”. This new watch beats the old version from 1998 in the dimension, the design and the technique. The perfect finish of this watch and the excellent case production with corners but no sharp edges is a gem for each wrist of a gentleman and also a „Ladies Fashion Style“ object in combination with a lot of colored and stylish leather straps, always matching with the outfit. SPECIALS: For a fixed charge of 250 Euro you can choose a special printing like your hometown at the inside ring with the major towns of the world. For additional 100 Euro we can print your initials at the dial. The watch functions: 2nd time zone: Adjustment with the crown Turn the crown counter-clock wise and place the red hand at the time you would like to know as your permanent 2nd time zone. Determine the time zone and 3rd time zone: With the bidirectional turning bezel you can determine the time zone of the important cities of the world. Sothis Chronograph JANUS
The bicompax chronograph Janus from 2004 was on of the first SOTHIS chronograph with luminous hands and 10 large luminous hour markers. Our intention was, to create a very clean chronograph with the focus at the chronograph indication itself. So we enlarge the sub dial as big as possible. To get the outlook of a bicompax styling we place the permanent second small in the background. For the strong sub dial hands we choose the form of the tip of a lance with a length of 5 mm.

Sothis Chronograph BIG BRIDGE
This chronograph Big Bridge was the largest square chronograph at the international fair in Basle 1998. From the first moment this unique chronograph was a big success for all watch lovers. But it takes nearly 2 years to bring this complicated case to the shops. Absolutely unique was the strap size with 30 mm between the lugs to only 18 mm at the deployment buckle. The proportion of the watchcase and the strap are still absolutely perfect. This chronograph is a real eye catcher.

2004 the chronograph Big Bridge gets a new face. This new design looks perfect at the square dial and opens the face of this watch with much more free space on the dial. Since a short time the big crown of the Big Bridge is engraved with the original old Egypt hieroglyphs.

Sothis Chronograph STARDUST
The model Stardust is a rendering homage to our star SOTHIS (Sirius) in the constellation of the Canis Major (Big Dog). With a lot of know how we engrave the constellation into the dial on a dark blue or black background. The main star was perfect to use it as the permanent second. To make this star to a real hand we place a small drilling in this star as the tip of the hand. For the third dimension we place two rings on the dial as the 30 minute and 12 hour counter. So this is a very special chronograph, not only for astrology lovers.
